Daz Guitarz Interview 4 ToneWoods
Those who know you know that you are a great lover of beautiful ToneWoods. How do you help your customers to choose the woods of their future guitar matched to the sound they have in mind? Can you easily find ToneWoods in your networks? If so, can you name some of your suppliers ?
Usually they already know what they want.
But, I still come with my little opinion because they stay fixed in the standard woods of the big brands (Gibson, Fender). I try to make them discover woods less known but just as good and beautiful as a maple or mahogany, for example, and to shake up traditions a bit, but it’s complicated.
Proposing pear tree or chestnut tree doesn’t speak to many in the electric guitar community.
Where I help them the most is with the tint, the varnish, the choice of pickups…
It does happen that some people ask for advice and I guide them according to their sound expectations.
Wood has a real impact on the sound. For a bass for example, if the musician is looking for a lot of low frequencies rather than midrange, I will clearly direct him/her towards ash and, if possible, a swamp ash which aesthetically is really more beautiful and will sound good.
To supply myself with wood, I look everywhere on the internet. I try to buy directly from sawmills but, in my region, there is little choice for exotic woods such as figured maple, for example.

Ceux qui te connaissent savent que tu es un grand amateur de belles essences de bois, comment aides-tu tes clients Ă choisir les bois de leur future guitare par rapport au son quâils ont en tĂȘte ? Arrives-tu Ă trouver facilement du bois dans tes rĂ©seaux ? Si oui, peux-tu nous citer quelques-uns de tes fournisseurs ?
En gĂ©nĂ©ral ils savent dĂ©jĂ ce qu’ils veulent.
Mais, je viens quand mĂȘme avec ma petite opinion parce qu’ils restent fixĂ©s dans les bois standard des grandes marques (Gibson, Fender). J’essaie de leurs faire dĂ©couvrir des bois moins connus mais tout aussi bons et beaux qu’un Ă©rable ou un acajou, par exemple, et de bousculer un peu les traditions mais c’est compliquĂ©.
Proposer du poirier ou du marronnier ça ne parle pas à beaucoup dans le milieu de la guitare électrique.
LĂ oĂč je les aide le plus, c’est sur la teinte, le vernis, le choix des micros…
Il arrive effectivement que quelques personnes demandent des conseils et je les guide en fonction de leurs attentes sonores.
Le bois Ă une vĂ©ritable incidence sur le son. Pour une basse par exemple, si le musicien recherche beaucoup de frĂ©quences basses plutĂŽt que des mĂ©diums, je l’orienterai clairement vers du frĂȘne et, si possible, un swamp ash (frĂȘne des marais) qui esthĂ©tiquement est vraiment plus beau et offrira une bonne sonoritĂ©.
Pour me fournir en bois, je regarde partout sur internet. J’essaie de me fournir directement en scierie mais, dans ma rĂ©gion, il y a peu de choix, entre autre, pour des bois exotiques comme de l’Ă©rable figurĂ© par exemple.
Pour ma part je me suis fait mon rĂ©seau et je trouve facilement ce que je souhaite, donc tout vos projets seront menĂ©s Ă bien ! đ
