Vahe Mardirossian Interview – Can you tell us what you consider to be the most important thing when you design a guitar ? What is your process of creation and how does it often start?

The most important thing about building a Flamenco guitar for me is the sound to be consistent, Easy to play, choosing quality wood that is aged over five years and low-string action.

Vahe Mardirossian Interview – According to you, what is the most impactful thing in the instument sound ? The woods ? the building technique ? what should a buyer ask for when he want to order an instrument when he was to be sure he is ordering the right instrument for him?

The building technique is very important to stay consistent and also choosing the right wood to produce the right tone.

I stay away from custom orders. most of the time clients would like spacial specification to be added to the instrument, which will jeopardize sound quality. I do not take custom orders, I build them a few at a time for inventory and sale.

Vahe Mardirossian Interview – For a custom instrument, can you explain your process? What are your average delays? And how do you advise your customer? What questions do you ask him so that his instrument is perfectly adapted to his expectations?

If I have a ready-made instrument in my inventory I will send them Photos and a small sound clip if it is possible. if they are local in Los Angeles I will advise them to come over and play the instrument before purchasing, and to answer all the questions that they may have.

Luthiers.com brings together luthiers from all over the world. According to you, how is the American lutherie different?

At the time when I studied and learned guitar making the most important thing was to finish the guitar with a French Polishing finish to produce a quality and better sound. Unfortunately, with todayʼs commercial market many guitars are being chemically produced plastic finishing that jeopardizes the quality and tone of the instrument.
