Daz Guitarz Interview 6 Advice for young luthiers
Do you have any advice for young luthiers? Can you give them advice on training courses?
From my little experience, I have 2 or 3 tips… But, as I am still “brand new” in the business, I would not allow myself to give “advice”, but rather explain what I think we should go through.
Already know if you’re made for it: woodworking!
As with all things, you’re made for it or not… To do that, you absolutely have to check if your desire can come true.
To find out quickly and cheaply, a first step is to make a guitar with few tools and see how you manage on your own!
Then, it is necessary to show the finished instrument to a Luthier who already has experience.
You should ask him for his opinion and, depending on what he says, consider possibly finding training with a Luthier already installed or with a training centre. The duration often depends on our own learning abilities.
If you want to set up on your own, think about everything and ask for help with your business plan from the various business start-up aid organisations.
Don’t leave “the flower with the gun” and say to yourself: “It’s OK, I’ve built a guitar, I’m going to open a workshop! “…
Be patient and learn every day.
It would take 5 lives to know everything about instrument making!

As-tu des conseils à donner aux jeunes luthiers en devenir ? Peux-tu les faire bénéficier de conseils au niveau des formations ?
De part ma petite expérience, j’ai 2 ou 3 tuyaux… Mais, comme je suis encore “tout neuf” dans le métier, je ne me permettrais pas de donner des “conseils”, mais, plutôt expliquer ce par quoi il faut passer selon moi.
Déjà savoir si on est fait pour ça : travailler le bois !
Comme pour toutes choses on est fait pour ça ou non… Pour cela, il faut absolument vérifier si son envie peut se concrétiser.
Pour le savoir rapidement et, à moindre frais, une première étape consiste à faire une guitare avec peu d’outils et voir comment on s’en sort tout seul !
Ensuite, il est nécessaire de montrer l’instrument terminé à un Luthier qui a déjà de l’expérience.
Il faut lui demander son avis et, selon ce qu’il dit, envisager éventuellement de trouver une formation auprès d’un Luthier déjà installé ou auprès d’un centre de formation. La durée dépend souvent de nos propres facultés d’apprentissage.
Si vous voulez vous installer à votre compte, réfléchissez à tout et demander de l’aide aux différents organismes d’aides à la création d’entreprise pour votre business plan.
Ne partez pas la fleur au fusil en vous disant : “c’est bon, j’ai construit une guitare, je vais ouvrir un atelier ! “…
Soyez patient et apprenez tout les jours.
