Gerhard Schoepp Music Interview 2 Repairs restorations and maintenance
When I was a student at the school for luthiery in Hallstatt, I learned to build and repair many different kinds of instruments, both plucked and bowed.
The basic principles of sound formation are the same on all string instruments, even though they may have a different appaerence.
However, the technical details are completely different.
This gives me the opportunity to diversify my work.
One week I may fix a violin found in an attic, working parallel on a new guitar, and find myself adjusting a concertharp with 47 strings the next week.
As my workshop is in the countryside, a lot of folk music is played around here, and thus I also repair and maintain the zither, dulcimer and other types.
I also do bow rehairing.
My work never gets boring!
